Transportation

San Luis Obispo County is easily accessible by land and air.

  • Air: The San Luis Obispo County airport, with over 50 flights per day, is served by America West Airlines, American/American Eagle Airlines, Skywest Airlines and United/United Express. Several airline charters are available plus helicopter service.
  • Bus: Greyhound operates 16 regular runs daily, in and out of the county. City and/or countywide transit systems plus charter bus services are available.
  • Rail: Amtrak makes daily stops in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, and Grover Beach.

Attire

Casual and comfortable attire, with light to medium-weight clothing suitable year-round. A sweater or jacket is recommended for cool evenings or misty mornings.

Two historic California Missions grace our county, San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, centrally located in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo, where various events attract visitors throughout the year, and San Miguel Arcangel, located at the northern point of the county in the historic village of San Miguel.

For the golf enthusiasts, San Luis Obispo County offers a variety of scenic courses. With terrific weather all year long, it’s always a perfect time to golf. Follow the San Luis County Golf Trail, with eleven public courses, ranging from 9 to 27 holes, to choose from.

San Luis Obispo County boasts two distinct wine regions, one to the north, in the Paso Robles area, where the long, hot summers and the chalk, limestone hillsides play an important part in producing the high quality fruit that turns specialty grapes into award winning wines. And one to the south, situated between the Santa Lucia mountain range on one side, and the Pacific Ocean on the other, where the diverse geography of the area creates specific micro-climates that provide ideal conditions for growing premium wine grapes. At the world-famous Hearst Castle(r), visitors will marvel at the magnificent art collection and be introduced to the opulent life and times of William Randolph Hearst through daily tours and via the Hearst Castle(r) documentary at the National Geographic Theater. And the views from the hilltop are extraordinary.
